Keon West is a Professor at the University of London, and the President of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. He has received numerous international awards for his research, teaching, media engagement and social activism. He has also appeared frequently as a psychological expert and presenter on a variety of international media platforms including the BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4, Channel 4 and The Guardian. He is especially well known for his research on prejudice, sexual orientation and sexual health. The Science of Racism is his second book.
Seema McArdle is a working-class PunGeordie, born into a Newcastle-based Punjabi family. After winning a place on the National Centre for Writing 23/24 Escalator programme, she worked on her debut children’s novel with her mentor, Ashley Hickson-Lovence.
Her work has also won the Publisher’s Prize at FABPrize 2020 and was shortlisted for the Penguin Random House WriteNow 2021 programme. Holding a BA (hons) in History & Sociology, a PGCE in Primary Education, and a CELTA, she has previously worked for The Independent, the Serious Fraud Office, the NHS, Norwich University of the Arts, and as a Primary Teacher for seventeen years. She now works at the University of East Anglia, where she is a member of the Race Equality Steering Committee and helped launch South Asian Heritage Month 2024.
An active and long-time supporter of the Show Racism the Red Card charity and a contributor of the John Blanke Project and ‘Who is John Blanke?’ book, Seema is interested in the fascinating histories of British People of Colour, many of whom remain excluded from our history and story books.
