Joseph Coelho: The Boy Lost in the Maze

Sorry, you missed this one!

2.30pm - 3.30pm : Norwich Theatre, Stage Two

Children's Event Young Adult

Norwich Theatre Royal, Theatre St, Norwich, NR2 1RL

Ashley Hickson-Lovence and Joseph Coelho present a captivating event for young adult readers.

A spellbinding event with the former Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho and Ashley Hickson-Lovence.

From Ancient Greece to modern-day London, Joseph and Ashley will read from their new verse novels which capture the teenage experience, from wannabe rappers to quests through mazes.

In Joseph’s new verse novel, the narrative splits between the myth and modern day: with Theseus braving the minotaur to find his father, whilst Theo is trying to pass his A-levels and also find his dad. This gripping story encompasses myth, magic, monsters, and reality.

Joseph Coelho will be in conversation with local author Ashley Hickson-Lovence, whose latest YA book Wild East is set in Norwich. Wild East follows 14-year-old wannabe rapper Ronny, who finds himself one of the only Black teenagers in a mostly white school after his mum moves them out of London. Ronny feels like a complete outsider in his new school, and the only thing getting him through is his dream to be a rapper.

This fascinating event will explore the role of the outsider in young adult fiction and the art of writing.

In this event, the audience will have the chance to ask questions to Joseph and Ashley and learn more about The Boy Lost in the Maze, which won the YOTO Carnegie 2024 Medal for Writing, and Wild East. Perfect for young adult readers and beyond.

Tickets £8

This is an extraordinary read… Deeply poignant, the story feels incredibly personal as these boys face a labyrinth of emotions, navigating their lives whilst feeling adrift, seeking a connection, seeking themselves...
