Can we use fantasy to confront and alter reality? Acclaimed authors and ecological activists, Lauren (Wren) James and Liz Jensen, join forces for an inspiring conversation on the power of words, and how literature can be used for radical change.
As respective founders of the ecological campaign groups Climate Fiction Writers League and the Writers Rebel, they’ll be sharing empowering stories of nature, hope and rebellion as they turn the spotlight on the climate crisis.
Wren and Liz promise to show how writing can change the world in these specially commissioned pieces for Norwich Book Festival, in this hopeful and heartening event.
They'll explore how their work raises awareness of climate change, and why fiction is one of the best ways to inspire passion, empathy and action in readers.

The novel of Lauren James's hugely popular online story An Unauthorized Fan Treatise.
When Delilah meets Sawyer Saffitz (son of Anya Saffitz, aka Hollywood royalty), she becomes hooked on a decade-old scandal. In her quest for the truth, Delilah uncovers blogposts written by the mysterious “gottiewrites” and is soon caught up in a world of greed, fandom conspiracy theories … and murder. And the deeper Delilah digs, the more dangerous it becomes – because someone is willing to kill to hide the truth.
Liz Jensen is the author of eight acclaimed novels including The Ninth Life of Louis Drax and the climate thrillers The Rapture and The Uninvited. She is a founder of the ecological campaign group Writers Rebel and the creator of the Rebel Library. She lives in Copenhagen.
A mother's unflinching account of finding meaning in her son's unexpected death. His is not the only death to haunt the pages of this raw and urgent memoir. Jensen's focus shifts between her own grief, and a mourning for lost nature.
About Your Wild and Precious Life
My son's death will never make sense to me. But it has taught me that it's possible to find meaning, collectively and individually, in the loss of what we love. And in finding them, transform. Resilience is a seed that we all bear inside us. It germinates in emergencies. It sets down roots in astonishing and unexpected ways. And if we notice it, and tend to it, it blooms.
Liz Jensen's son, a zoologist, conservationist and ecological activist, was twenty-five when he collapsed and died unexpectedly. She fell apart. As she grieved, forest fires raged, coral reefs deteriorated, CO2 emissions rose and fossil fuels burned.
Your Wild and Precious Life is the story of how a mother rebuilt herself, reoriented her life and rediscovered the enchantment of the living world.
